On the nose this Whisky is spicy and peppery, but theres a richness behind it, with spicy oak and soft orange fruitiness, and soft vanilla notes from the bourbon cask. Grainy sweetness and candied orange peel, quite rich, accompanied by rich cinnamon and clove. Great balance, this really needs a little water to allow the flavours to unfurl.
Toffee and vanilla fudge jump out before we dive into a bucket of singed raisins and smouldering peat bricks. Green grass and leafy notes poke out around the edges along with candied lemons and flamed orange peel. The green edges from the nose are back, with richer notes of stewed apples and sultanas, and a touch of vanilla toffee. Menthol throat sweets and sweet smoke slowly fade to leave grilled apples and buttery pastry.

Classic Yamazaki strawberries and dried fruits with floral notes coming from the Mizunara cask whisky. Fragrant sandalwood and maybe coconut. Certainly, a whisky where you could get lost in its nose! The dried berries remain lively on the palate (it even develops some raspberry notes along the way), but they're dialed back a bit to make room for light oak, white peach and a small amount of spice. Vanilla lasts and lasts, with spicy but sweet cinnamon acting as a final flourish.
