A variety noted for its neutrality, this could not be further from the case here, with old vine Palomino sourced from top pagos and careful, precise winemaking, creating a world class white wine. Granbazán Limousin shows that Albarino can be world class - not just when lees-aged, but also with careful oak maturation. The drama starts as soon as you pour, this is a remarkably coloured Pinot Grigio. The nose is exotic and enveloping in a sweet and sultry sort of way … very melony, peachy, apricotty. Similar on the palate with a really soft and full ‘pillowy’ sort of sensation. It feels almost ‘thick’ in the mouth and you keep looking into the glass to check you didn’t buy the ‘with bits’ version! It drinks fantastically as soon as you open it but if you can keep your mitts off it for 40 mins -hour, it definitely opens up and offers even more.
On the nose are lively citrus fruit, green apple and delicate white-flower scents. The palate feels crisp and clean, with flavours of lemon, pear and a subtle hint of almond. The finish is enlivened by bright acidity, light minerality and a pleasant lingering note.
